(sub. req.): In an otherwise scathing story in Barron’s, a point which Netflix has made earlier: CEO Reed Hastings says Netflix will offer downloadable movies from its Website by early 2005. He concedes that in the long run, consumers will download most of their movies, rather than buy or rent them, though neither he nor anyone else knows whether the transition will take five years, 10 years, or 20 years. The intermediate plan, Hastings says, is to allow customers to choose to receive a movie either in the mail or via download.
