I’ve always had an affinity for companies hatched directly out of Universities: Out of University of Malta comes a new startup called Textview…the company facilitates live reception of TV backchannels containing Teletext on a mobile phone. In plain language (and UK readers would understand this more easily), its technology can port the Teletext (the ubiquitous text news and information channel in UK, and other Euroepan countires and not so common is U.S.) in to mobile phones.
In UK and Ireland, TextView’s technology picks up live streams of BBC1, BBC2 and RTE text services. Content includes travel updates, sports and horseracing news, flight arrivals and TV listings. TextView charges 50p per day for use of its service.
The service is already proving very popular with airport taxi drivers who need to keep track of flight arrivals from their cars, according to the company.
The content is also searchable on the mobile phone…
