Updated: Master List of Digital Media Coalitions And Alliances–See Below
OK, are you ready for this? Another digital media networking alliance: In a bid to establish a common platform for Internet accessibility for home electronics, 14 Japanese companies are launching the “Ubiquitous Open Platform Forum” that will seek to complete a spec by April. The forum’s main goal is to provide generic Internet access for digital consumer electronics and electric home appliances. The initiative also aims to create new services and markets — akin to cellphones based on Japan’s i-mode service — by combining the resources of consumer electronics manufacturers, carriers and contents providers.
So now that we’re done with the news, some fun. Quiz: how many such networking alliances do you think exist within the digital media industry? About 15 at last count…and this is not including the traditional online publishing alliances like the OPA.
