“I can’t see a reason why a consumer would want to download a song on her handset with so much urgency…we should stick to our technology and consumer roots” [some paraphrase]. His message: Don’t confuse yourself with iTunes…
[Ed: Wonder what someone like Nokia will have to say on that, especially in light of its service like “Visual Radio”…of course that is a streaming service, at least as of now, than a download service, so has different dynamics.]

Jerry Roest, CEO Shazam: I disagree. The mobile phone is wonderful because it is there, it is part of the culture….what’s make the mobile special is the immediacy…and when I hear a song, I don’t make a mental note and then go check the song out on the PC…I want it now…
Ed Kershaw, Head of Music at Vodafone UK: We can’t simply duplicate Internet onto the mobile phone…it is a small device with low rendering capabilities. We’re not saying music files on your phone are worthless, but we are saying that full downloads a la Internet is not the way to go…
Tommi Mustonen, Nokia: Combining mobile and PC will be the way to go…at the moment, I agree with Graeme. But time will come whe things are more ready for downloads…compression etc…
