NTT, Sky Perfect To Launch IP TV

Satellite broadcaster Sky Perfect Communications and Japan’s top telecom company NTT are planning to launch a broadband Internet television service. The broadband TV service will offer more than 100 programs on movies, cartoons and music and trial runs are scheduled to start in February, according to the story.

KDDI, NTT’s rival, already offers an Internet TV service on its fiber optic cable network in Japan.

Bloomberg: One challenge the company will face is convincing customers to pay for services via the Internet, Sky Perect spokesperson said.

Only 10 percent of 70,000 registered users of Sky Perfect’s Web-based service, which transmits programs to personal computers, are paying customers.
