(via LostRemote): Well, this was always on its horizon..it is only a matter of time. In its Q4 earnings announcement, CEO Reed Hastings said Netflix is developing a way to let consumers download movies over the Internet, possibly by 2005.
Right now, I think the announcement is pure vaporware…and then, 2005 is a bit too late to get in the game…it has to be within the next 6 months…
Of course, with its name and a ready subscriber base, it could easily convert those DVD rental users into downloads…but then, that’s what all ISPs are hoping, with a different proposition based on broadband penetration. and upsell of premium services..
Would be interesting to see if and when Netflix gets on the auction block…a big broadband ISP should be salivating at the prospect….
