UK’s biggest supermarket chain Tesco is planning a Napster-style online music business…it already accounts for 15 per cent of chart CDs sold. Expect this move to strike similar fears as Wal-Mart’s entry into the online music market did in U.S. (Um, did it?)
Tesco’s online grocery ordering and delivery service has been a bigger success than any such ventures in U.S.
HMV offers digital music sales in the UK, as do internet service providers such as Tiscali, but the entry of Tesco is likely to provide explosive growth for the fledgling market.
