Philips Unveils first Internet-Ready TV Set; Yahoo To Provide Content

Pic Courtesy IGN InsiderPhilips Electronics has unveiled a television set featuring a wireless connection to the Internet and PCs. Seems like it will be the Streamium LCD TV… The Streamium television uses an 802.11g wireless network to access digital multimedia content directly from the Internet or from the PC, like photos or video.

It has also announced home servers which can pull music and video from the Net and transport it to the TVs and HiFi sets which consumers already have in their homes.

In a related announcement, Philips said it has tied up with to offer services such as access to movie trailers and online photo albums, on its Streamium range of products. The companies plan to offer an extensive selection of both free and premium (subscription-based) online services.

Also, the new MX-6000i DVD home theater system can be connected to any TV and offers the same online capability as the Streamium TV and connection to online music services that have partnered with Philips, including MusicMatch and Live365.com.
