Classical.com Closes Consumer Online Music Service

Classical.com, an online music service focused on classical genre, will close down its consumer service from Jan 5, 2004, according to a note on its site. The London-based company will instead be focusing on selling its service to libraries…”The decision has been made to focus attention on our services for libraries and institutions, including our related product Classical Music Library,” said the note…

The site started changing its focus about a year ago, when it found out that not many consumers were buying its subcription service directly…it started offering libraries and institutions a chance to offer sophisticated music to its patrons, either by offering it on the library’s computers, or enabling remote access using library card.
