Random Musings From LAX

I am sitting at LAX airport, having missed my connecting flight to Monterey…somebody should devise a more intelligent system of making sure transit passengers get through the customs/immigration faster…I know they have the INS Pass, but that’s only for frequent travelers and hard to get, from what I have heard.

And then, they have a ridiculous policy of collecting your checked-in baggage (probably only in LAX) even if you have a connecting flight, and if you wanted it to be checked till you final connecting destination.

Another new policy: you can’t use your cellphones within the immigration area…anyone doing that would have their phone confiscated, and may face a fine…security reasons, I understand, but what if I want to inform someone about my arrival?

Anyway, whiling away my time until the next flight to Monterey, in couple of hours…thanks God for Wi-Fi…

On Wi-Fi: Well, since I’ve been criss-crossing through Europe and U.S, Wi-Fi has been a boon…at every place except London. At London Heathrow, they do have Wi-Fi, but it has an absolutely ridiculous price of 6 (or is it 7) GBP an hour! Here’s my question: why? In Tampere, Finland, the hotel I was staying in had a commercial Wi-Fi connection (DNA Finland) and costed 15 Euros for 24-hour access, which is still on the higher side, but better something than nothing…

At LAX, I paid up for Boingo’s two-day $7.95 connection. QED. Let’s see if Monterey Plaza Hotel has anything…more on that when I arrive there…
