So how are search engines going to capitalize on the recent activity in the legal online music market? One answer, given by Steve Berkowitz, CEO of AskJeeves: there may be a case for Jeeves to direct its users straight to the maker or producer of that music where a consumer can immediately download the song in question.
Though that kind of arrangement might be a way off, the company hopes to get the likes of Apple, Napster and RealNetworks, among others to tap its traffic base. In this way, consumers can type in a song and go to a site that allows them to download the song, rather than wait for a song to be shipped in the mail.
