EMI Group is in advanced talks to sell song downloads on legitimate P2P music service Wippit.com….EMI would make available over 100,000 tracks to Wippit’s European customers as soon as next month, according to the story.
“We’re in contract stage with two more major labels. We’re hoping at least one of them we can add by the end of the year,” [Wippit founder Paul Myers] said.
LA Times: The service comes with a catch, though: Wippit users can’t share EMI files electronically — at least not yet. Instead, they have to download them from a central computer operated by Wippit, just as they would with any other authorized online music service.”
