MarketWatch Profits Up; Revs Increase Slightly

MarketWatch.com Q3 revenues were $11.6 million, compared to $11.0 million the same period a year ago. Net income was $300,000, compared to a net loss of $724,000 in the year-ago quarter.

Ad revenues, which include online and broadcast sales, totaled $5.9 million in the third quarter 2003, increasing 9 percent from the prior quarter and 30 percent from the same period last year.

Licensing revenues dropped further to $5.2 million or 45 percent of total revenues, compared to $5.3 million last quarter and $6.1 million for the same period last year. The decreases were largely due to the “impact of several quarters’ slowdown in licensing sales caused by the softness and consolidation in the financial services sector”.

Subscription revenues–from its premium newsletters–increased 61 percent over the same period last year.
