MLB Downloads Allow Sharing And Burning

In a smart move, MLB.com will allow users to download the 2003 Playoff and World Series games, right after the match completion. The games download will cost $3.95 per game. Users may store the downloaded game on up to three computers, and may also burn the game to CD-ROM or DVD-ROM for optional storage.

RealNetworks is providing the player format and its Helix DRM technology for this.

InternetNews.com: “To counter piracy on peer-to-peer networks, MLB.com added a secret ID tag to every download sold. If a customer uploads the games to one of the free, controversial file-sharing networks…the ID tag would pin that file to the customer and legal steps would be taken against violators.”
