Damn Numbers And Stats: OPA’s New Report on Premium Content

Online Publishers Association has released latest figures on online content sales…see the release and download the full report from OPA’s website (right side of the homepage).

It has also released a separate report on the demographic and usage figures for the audience buying content online. That report is also available from the OPA homepage.

Haven’t had a chance to go through the numbers. Lots of spin in the release and report, so tread carefully…more later…

Update: Going through the report: this statement gets me: “While slowing growth is indicative of a maturing market, we may also be in the midst of a quiet period during which content providers are readying new premium paid services for an increasingly receptive public.” Neither OPA nor comScore has any way to know that any of the two statements they make above are true, or can be. So what’s the basis of this conjecture?

Another thing: I have changed my mind on online dating: please take it out of the results before you come to any conclusions. Online dating is a service and has no place in the report. Period. Even if media companies are making revenues off it…
