Goodbye To A Flat Rate For Broadband?

Sometimes, the whole socialist underpinning on the British society frustrates me no end: take for example, this move to be fair to people who don’t use the Internet that much, and would want to pay less for their broadband connection, while others who are using it heavily should pay much more. The pay-as-you-go concept it endemic to the British and European society, which is what separates it from the essentially capitalistic and American ideal of all-you-can-eat. It has implication in all spheres of life, including whether micropayments are much more acceptable in European society versus North America. It also affects media and telecom consumption patterns, in many more ways than we have explored till now. For instance, why SMS is very popular here than U.S.

I have been thinking about this weird Atlantic divide for a while now, and will perhaps write about it in detail someday.
