MediaInfoCenter News Site Launched

In a criminal waste of Knight Foundation money, the Media Management Center at Northwestern University has launched a brand-new media news site called MediaInfoCenter.org. The Knight Foundation provided the grant for this service…

Nice site, and gives me another great source to link to, but do we really need another site to cover media? Don’t we already have enough general media news sites? And wouldn’t Knight Fdn money be used for better purposes…like funding the already cash-strapped journalism schools?

Also, now most of the media news on WSJ.com (which is behind a subscription wall…and to think that WSJ.com is promoting its Media & Marketing vertical heavily) will be available for free on this site. Same with Daily Variety, TheDeal.com and others…courtesy Tribune’s syndication subsidiary FluentMedia. Wonder how WSJ and others will take this move? Of course, syndication is part of the revenue mix, as are subscriptions and advertising, but syndication on the open-web? It is a dangerous balancing game…
