Sports Illustrated has placed new restrictions on its online edition…Articles from the magazine and new Web features like weekend sports previews, new online columns by SI writers and photo galleries — are being bundled into a new part of the site only for subscribers, called SI Exclusive. News, scoreboards and most online-only columns by SI writers will remain available to non-subscribers.
SI is taking a slightly different tack than other Time Inc mags: Most of the site’s content will remain free. And the magazine content isn’t being made available to AOL members who aren’t SI subscribers.
Ned Desmond, executive editor of Time Inc. Interactive, said each Time Inc. magazine is following its own strategy. The company’s newsweekly, Time, has experimented with subscriber-only sections on its Web site, Mr. Desmond said, and “will make a decision soon.” (Well, I already told you so) .
