Playboy Online has registered a second consecutive quarter of operating profit, which was $0.1 million in the current year, compared to a loss last year of $2.9 million. The improvement reflected both an 8 percent increase in revenues to $8.3 million, as well as cost reduction efforts.
Higher prices for the subscription-based Playboy Cyber Club and a 25 percent increase in the number of subscribers (in part through the introduction of new clubs, according to the company) were responsible for the 58 percent increase in Q2 subscription revenues to $4.2 million. Second quarter e-commerce revenues, however, declined, to $3.3 million from $3.7 million last year.
Christie Hefner, CEO, in a statement: “Online continued to demonstrate the vitality of our subscription- and e-commerce-based business model, reporting its second quarter of profitability during the traditionally slow early summer season.”
