FoxSports, SportingNews Merge Online Operations (Sort Of)

(Update: Read an interview with Ross Levinsohn, SVP & General Manager of Fox Sports Interactive Media, tommorow) Big news in the online sports arena: FoxSports and Sporting News have announced an alliance of their online operations: FoxSports will provide the news; SportingNews will provide the premium sports fantasy games, an area that brought in millions of dollars in revenue for Sporting News last year, according to the company.

The sites will remain separate, but cross-promotions are planned on TV in print, online and on the radio. Both Fox Sports and Sporting News operate sports talk radio networks.

Both the sites have been struggling over the last couple of years: FoxSports recently eneded its relationship with Lycos, fired all its news staff, and was auctioning off its news space on eBay. SportingNews was struggling from irrelevance…I wouldn’t be surprised if something similar happens with Sportsline as well..
