FCC media bureau chief Kenneth Ferree has made it clear that no separate rules are needed to regulate broadband ISPs…The FCC has been debating whether such rules are necessary amid fears that consumers could be blocked from going to sites that do not have a business relationship with their Internet provider.
According to another story by Dow Jones Newswires, Ferree said the debate is really about whether the FCC should arbitrate a commercial dispute. Such arbitration could end up slowing deployment of broadband and new content. “Dealmaking between content providers, application developers and distribution-system operators may be precisely the engine for innovation and success on the Web that we’ve been waiting for.”
