America Online will pay a yearly licensing fee to Time Inc to get its exclusive content for AOL subscribers. Time Inc. will divide the fee among the magazines involved according to traffic and ad-sales metrics, according to the story. The licensing fee is said to be in the $40 million range. The structure of the deal for the brands’ Websites left them “revenue neutral” on their profit-and-loss statements — which may salve some internal concerns about restricted access.
