Online Newspapers Show Little Interest in Innovative Payment Systems (Europe): A detailed story (and a report) the the European content payment solutions. According to the report by Van Dusseldorp & Partners, entitled “The Guide to European Content Payment Solutions“, while many online newspapers still shy away from charging for their content online, those who do so prefer credit card and debit systems instead of opting for more user-friendly and often cheaper payment solutions.
“Only one-third of 14 fee-based European online newspapers analysed by Van Dusseldorp & Partners offered alternatives to debit or credit card payment. So far, none of the major national newspapers included in the research have made the conversion into a fully-paid service and many still offer the majority of their content for free. Exclusivity, the thorough monitoring of user movements, and flexible pricing structures are the key to making readers pay for online content.”
