PreCache Survives, With Help From Sony’s Infusions of Cash: An interesting story by WSJ on PreCache, a digital publishing solutions company funded by Sony. “A key idea [in the company’s etchnology] is to store users’ preferences for receiving information in servers that are close to them, reducing the need for a publisher to send multiple copies of similar messages. For example, if two nearby users both wanted to order the same movie, or stock quotes about the same company, that information could be sent just once from a central server to their general vicinity, speeding its delivery.”
