PubScience Shut down Due to Pressure From Pay Sites: The U.S. Energy Department has shut down PubScience, an electronic service that cross-indexed and searched roughly 2 million government reports and academic articles. The shutdown will save the government $200,000 a year because two equivalent subscription services exist in the private sector. The two services Scirus and Infotrieve are owned by database companies that publish or make available academic literature for a fee.
