BT Group’s Wholesale subsidary, has launched Internet Payments, a new micropayments system for resellers that will charge users for accessing content through their mobile or home phone bills. With the micropayments system, a software dialer can be downloaded will allow users to drop their regular connection and connect them to premium rate when accessing premium content on the internet. For broadband users, a PIN is provided which allows them to connect via the premium rate.
Since I haven’t seen the solution, I cannot comment on the feasibility of it, but if the dialer actually makes users “drop their regular connection,” that solution seems a tad inelegant, to say the least. More when I get further details…
