RealNetworks a Big Loser if Baseball Strike Goes Ahead: If Major League Baseball players go on strike this week, one of the losers may be RealNetworks, which has made baseball a centerpiece of its audio and video subscription services. Along with broadcasts of the CBS reality series Big Brother, baseball games are the top summer programming for the service.

In fact, the company has already warned investors that a baseball strike could hurt revenue going forward. “Our RealOne subscription service has become an increasingly important source of our total revenues,” the company said in a July 25 quarterly filing with the SEC. If baseball goes on strike, the company cautioned, its “ability to retain existing subscribers and to attract new subscribers could be materially harmed.”

In the event of a strike, the company will likely offer subscribers some combination of refunds and credits for future programming.
