European Music Spending: According to a survey by Screen Digest, subscriptions to music libraries, which can be accessed via different digital devices from anywhere, will be the dominant way of delivering music online in Europe, by 2005. Spending on music via online services by European consumers will represent 17 percent of total music industry revenues. In the same period, traditional retail music sales are expected to grow only 2 percent.

“At the end of 2001 digital downloads generated only EUR 3 million in European consumer spending–this is expected to increase to EUR 152 million by 2005.” Meanwhile, subscription revenues are expected to increase form EUR 3.2m in 2001 to EUR 362m in 2005.
