It’s funny though, because it makes perfect sense to do this, but I have never thought about this before when I’ve been on youtube. Most other video sites aggregate content or let you access videos from other sites, but when I go to youtube I sort of figure that everything is going to be uploaded there anyway even from other sites.

Maybe they’re worried about diluting the youtube brand.

YouTube as a web video search portal would make enormous sense. I tried out the other companies you have mentioned doing web video search. VideoSurf, CastTV, and Blinkx are excellent. The rest seem to be so-so and don’t seem to have any advantage over Google video even from a user experience perspective. But even the good ones don’t stand a chance against Google I would think. That brand name is so powerful. Users come there for all kinds of search and video search is just an extension. You should also take into account that Google’s standard search includes video results that get clicked on…which the comScore metric may be completely missing.
