Talked to some more people today -- I guess VAS was supposed to be a unified video player/platform/data set for all of Yahoo, but the specs kept changing?

Also, one source said some 20-25 people were just laid off between Sunnyvale and Dallas video groups. If you have more info, please drop me a line.

Yahoo Video has been listless for last yr esp bc the eng team could not ship VAS (video app server) on time. The backend architecture needed a major overhaul. It got so bad that the BizDev team for the Media group could no longer sign new video content partners. Shravan was shown the door in April. The site never made any money despite all the traffic it got from the home page of Yahoo. By the way, have you noticed the home page doesn't promote Yahoo Video as much anymore? There is no formal Yahoo Video unit anymore. It's just a service now and no longer a business unit.
