Where to Find Fresh Video: Pageflakes

Pageflakes, which makes customizable start pages, let us know it will be formally launching a whole bunch of video-related widgets Wednesday. The tools will help you create a web page that automatically updates with searches on your favorite video sites and keywords, so you can access it from any computer to get a personalized snapshot of fresh video.

San Francisco-based Pageflakes has put together a “universal video search” widget, which appears to be making use of AOL’s SearchVideo, powered by that company’s purchase of Truveo. Annoyingly, the widget opens up videos in a new tab or window rather than playing them within the page (and with my browser settings, forcibly resizes my window too!).

The search results widget is similar to ClipRoller, a startup we recently wrote about, but is a lot further along in terms of design and breadth of results.

Pageflakes has also built widgets specifically for Google Video, Dailymotion, Metacafe, Revver, and YouTube.
Here’s a good example of a customized page that makes use of the video widgets, compiling a variety of web resources about newly released movies. This is nothing earth-shattering, but it’s a handy tool.

Pageflakes has funding from Benchmark Capital and recently brought on the former head of My Yahoo, Dan Cohen, as its CEO.
