Weekend Vid Picks: Au Revoir, Battlestar
If I know anything for certain, it’s that long after Battlestar Galactica comes to its conclusion tonight on the Sci-Fi Channel, we’ll still be talking about it. And whether or not you’re satisfied by the series finale or have lots more questions, there’s no denying that some weird moments in online video have resulted thanks to modern television’s most complex and intense apocalyptic space drama.
Once upon a time, for example, the site SyFy Portal (now renamed Airlock Alpha) took a guess as to how the series would end. Thank the gods they got it wrong. I mean, no matter what weirdness actually happens in the finale, at least we can trust that there won’t be any rapping Lego men dancing around on Earth. (The song’s pretty catchy, though.)
Also, in the tradition of other shows with complex plotlines, the Sci-Fi channel once attempted to explain the series in eight minutes or less:
And it was a weird day for geeks when David Letterman brought the entire cast on to Late Night to do a top 10 list on why folks should be watching the show. (James Callis’s embarrassment is palatable.)
Watching that clip makes it clear that there are some people who get the show, and some people that don’t. Granted, it was never a series with mainstream appeal. But those who loved it loved it passionately (even while they mocked it). Galacticast made creators Rudy Jahchan and Casey McKinnon into web series icons and took geek satire to a new level on a technical and comedic scale. One of their early efforts was a pilot for the hit game show You Might Be A Cylon
Those who loved it will miss it; those who didn’t get it will perhaps find a little peace. (Until Caprica premieres, that is.)

Hi, Liz!
Yeah, the joke video from Dave’s School had a funny ending … but we actually didn’t get the ending wrong with our coverage.
On New Year’s Eve, in our final spoiler ever posted, we said that the final scene would take place in New York’s Times Square with Number Six.
We were right. :)
Remember that Battlestar Galactica was the series that made the TV broadcasters change their strategy when it came to syndication and they had to release the show in all markets at the same time becuse of Bittorent .
