There is no advance decision to record a program so as to not miss it. The show or movie is simply available. The challenge, and the reason that VOD has not grown faster, is that the functionality and user friendly buttons are arcane. The tree and branch approach to access programming, the latency for buttons to activate, the occasional drop off, forcing the viewer to restart the search, all hurt its acceptance and appeal. Until controls, speed, and userability improves, VOD will continue to lag behind Tivo and the DVR.

]]> By: Mike Binder http://gigaom.com/video/vod-growing-but-lags-behind-dvr-use/#comment-474016 Tue, 14 Jul 2009 22:37:34 +0000 http://newteevee.com/?p=28159#comment-474016 I think VOD has a huge future in the same sense that Itunes and Kindle do in the impulse buy sense of things and the ease of it all, but as you say it has to lay out with confidence of quality and uniform service. if the big players all got together and got the platform to have a universality than we, as filmmakers and our financiers could build true marketing campaigns around VOD and partner with stars and have a half way decent end around to the studio system that won’t service a certain kind of film any longer.
