I think you misunderstand.  The guild rules that ban writing for new media during a strike are, as I understand it, only about writing new media for the struck companies: Warner Bros., Disney, Viacom, etc.

In fact, writers are being encouraged to foster other ties with new media and write for it.  That&#039;s what the big companies are so worried about.  In the world of new media there is no need for a distributor.  They are becoming more and more irrelevant.  And their only relevance is their good relations with talent-- which, of course, they are doing everything they can to poison these days.
