I think you missed the point of the comparison. You look at the material consequences of an inappropriate use of the technology. You should look at what happens BEFORE that technology is provided, the sense of responsability that any "scientist" should feel whenever he/she provides the society with a new technology.

"Science without conscience is but ruin of the soul" as said some french dude (Rabelais). I suggest you google this up.
