@csi - Yes, and as metrics mature we may well see that. comScore told me that in May they will add show-by-show metrics and sometime after that will start splitting out syndicated and non-syndicated content.

Isn't it possible that the diff between Hulu's audience numbers as reported by Nielsen and ComScore is caused by ComScore recording unique viewers when Hulu videos are watched on other sites (like Veoh and MySpace) whereas Nielsen may just be recording unique viewers on Hulu.com?

So what's the difference of a few billion views among friends??? Whatever the true numbers actually are, online video has forever changed how people access information, use the web and consume content. YouTube is a mega information, marketing and entertainment engine. Cable companies are struggling to figure out new business models because their customers have become so used to getting the content they want, when they want it. Newspapers are becoming more open to citizen journalism by allowing user-generated uploads and comments. Small and emerging brands are competing with the ‘big boys’ by aligning with niche online communities and content providers. Eventually, our industry will settle on some standard measurement tools, but until then, we can’t ignore the shift that online video has caused in media, business and society in general.
