I tried a whole bunch of different devices, and I decided on 3 key factors:

  • Volume Buttons (since web video volume varies)
  • Keyboard (to check email during pre-roll)
  • Trackball (easy to control on couch)

But, I think you don’t go far enough with the remote. I’m thinking iPod Touch-type interface that would give you alternately a QWERTY keyboard and a numeric keypad with LAST, GUIDE,etc as well. I think it might be tough to get used to, but if not, it would make the guide on my digital cable amazing!
