[...] Representatives from Sorenson wouldn’t comment on the purchase of the domain or VP8 in general, but support for the codec makes sense both in its encoding and video management businesses. By adding VP8 to the list of encoding formats that its Sorenson Squeeze encoding software supports — a list that already includes H.264, VC-1, MPEG-2 and VP6 — Sorenson can continue to hit all the major codecs that video publishers want to use. And supporting VP8 through its Sorenson 360 online video platform will allow its customers to distribute their videos to Android-based mobile devices and Google TV consumer electronics devices, which are expected to use VP8.
It may be just a "tin hat" passing thought , but could Microsoft (MPEG-LA patent pool member) Android/Linux related patent suits be part of
the larger picture here?

It does seem that Microsoft's marketing department often takes a backseat to their legal department in competing in the marketplace.

One thing I really find fascinating about the VP8/HTML5/Adobe/H.264 discussion
is just how much waterboy journalism I've been seeing out there.
Sometimes it reminds me more of the stink I would expect in political campaigns than anything else, where half truths and dis-information is pushed
so hard as make it obvious that "news" is the least of the concerns in the
reporting.

Lest one get the wrong idea , I'm not talking about the reporting here.
