Paolo, I’m sorry but as an Italian, I must disagree.
If you’re saying that in Italy there’s the possibility to speak freely when less then 10 people hear you, you’re correct.
While, if you’re saying that in Italy you have the possibility to talk in television or on the newspapers in a free way, that is totally false.
Unfortunately, if you don’t have a robust “background”, you will be simply smashed and muted by those who have the political power (which is also the economical)…and the demonstration is that also a giant like Google is having many difficulties to change this aspect.

This whole Larry Downes this is bullshit: Italy is a free country with as much freedom of speech as in the US... However I agree that Google did what they were supposed to. On the other hand it must also be considered that privacy law in the EU is a very tricky business...
