already tested and it works easily for file sharing (at least with small userbase) if it's the right technology for this ... i really doubt! For me, the possibilites, like you told, are revolutionary for video/chat systems "outsourcing" the bandwidth to the user. Its just awesome, i only started with as3 & flex 2 days ago just because of this "new" (at least for me) development. And the good on that is that it is very easy to learn. you can implement voip, video sharing and chat system within 1 hour of work into your website. I just started to love Adobe!! OMG

I think what's lost in this discussion is that we're talking about the delivery mechanism. We're talking about how live video is delivered to the end user. When you talk about search, I assume you mean searching some archived video after it has already been broadcast live. So you can still record the live feed (via FMS or maybe locally at the encoder, whatever). That video is still searchable to whatever extent videos are searchable today.

Do a search for YouTube videos and see what pops up. This will be no different Flash videos using peer-to-peer. Also if you want to harp on this issue, in Adobe's Premiere CS4 has speech recognition capabilities which can create a text file for captions in the Flash video, with the timing of the caption synced up with the video. This will give greater search inside particular videos. Meanwhile, Adobe's has demoed that they are working on this technology to work server side, although Google has already created their own solution without Adobe for YouTube.

However, searchability is not a problem and is just a completely different issue. The big deal about all of this is that live events will be a fraction of the costs of what they cost now. This means we will likely see a LOT more live events online as they become easlier and cheaper to do.

Although I'm curious about how the internet infrastructure would handle multiple large live internet events happening at the same time.

This is very interesting, great pick up, Janko!

I wonder if an offshore site could use this to build a streaming site offering pirated video at a fraction of the costs of presently serving decent quality video. If so, expect the MPAA to start having heart attacks any moment now.
