Create Chinese P2P Startup, Rake in Cash
Why am I writing about online video when I could be creating yet another Chinese P2P-powered on demand video site and raking in venture capital? First Xunlei, then UUSee and now the unfortunately named PPStream have all closed funding rounds in the last few months — with Shanghai’s PPStream reportedly scoring $10 million in Series B from Qiming and Ceyuan ventures.
Jokes about South Park’s Kenny apparently performing traditional Chinese opera in the above screenshot aside, for all the intellectual property caveats levied at the Chinese market by content creators, distribution technology companies seem to be giving it plenty of attention. I can’t tell you how the experiences between the different services compare, since my Chinese begins and ends with saying “three pork buns please” in Cantonese. If any of you readers out there can give these services a try, please let me know via email or in the comments.

Thanks for the cricket relay tip! Even though West Indies seem to be on their way out. Looks like I’ll have to side with Om and the Kiwis.
First off, xunlei is nothing like the other two. it’s a download manager – helps you grab large files from different sources (other peers, web sites).
ppstream has been around ages. pretty similar to uusee, pplive, etc. streams live tv or user made channels of videos. all teh services have huge potential copyright issues: it’s almost all copyrighted stuff being streamed without permission of the owner. makes youtube look tame. western people investing in these services are going to get a wake up call sometime soon.
Im an Aussie that lives in the US and I cant justify to the Mrs spending $200 on the direct Tv cricket package
I hope someone like Joost or my buddies at Wurld Media who where aquired by the Australian owned roo get the online rights to sports like cricket .
And Jackson check out this site that only does live p2p sport they also did a great review of Joost .

try us here http://www.localbroadcast.tv or here http://www.localbroadcast.tv/multistream.html .. a couple of flavors of P2P. Or check our Italian friends at http://www.streamerone.com
using P2P streaming to rip off copyright holders or cricket broadcasters won’t be a big deal in the long term.
helping MSM/TV bring their current audience and ad load to the net is where P2P will make a difference
