Catch Up on All of Lost in HD on ABC.com
Perusing ABC.com tonight, I noticed the network recently posted all three seasons of Lost for HD streaming. The episodes are presented as part of the lead-up to the fourth season premiere on January 31. “see how it all began – watch seasons 1-3 online now – in HD streaming” says the site.
For most shows, ABC offers only the four most recent episodes online, and almost always in regular definition — so to have three full seasons in HD is a pretty big departure. But despite Lost‘s rabid following, the network doesn’t seem to have promoted the offering — its last Lost press release is from Dec. 26, when the show put out a 8-minute, 15-second trailer wrapping up its first three seasons in the style of “7-Minute Sopranos.”
Since streaming a video depends on the host keeping it online, anyone looking to catch up on three full seasons had best start cramming. But versus iTunes or DVD, if you’re looking to watch Lost legally, the price can’t be beat.

I’d imagine they’re not shouting too loudly about it because they don’t make any money from online video. Didn’t you hear?
It’s obviously an entirely altruistic exercise, because like all networks, they famously love and respect fans of their shows, and they’ll do anything for them. Hell, the way they tell it, this is actually going to cost them.
So really, I think the writers of Lost should be paying ABC for the privilege of having their work shown in full this way.
That’s how to monetize online video.
Of course as a non-US internet user I’m not allowed to watch them. Since there is no other legal way to watch Lost I thought this would be a great opportunity, but as always the world of distrubutors are to narrow-sighted to see the benefits and potentials to use the Internet for the GLOBAL market place it is.
If nothing else ABC could provide it globally as a way to learn and understand american and democratic values :)
