TV ha sno clear metrics either - the various "ratings" systems are imperfect ways of understanding the relationship between the TV and people who may or may not be in the same room. All of these metrics are driven be advertising, and the emperor's clothes has always been that the are all averaged estimates - but estimates of what? Do people get a bit to eat in the break? Do they slide past commercials on TiVO?

Cinema has the best metrics of all because it's a one - to one payment to buy a ticket.

Although online video is a burgeoning industry, it's amazing to me that standards still have not been determined. Comparing a movie that's available to for free on your laptop to one that requires payment and to leave the house makes no sense at all.
