Alex- That's exactly what the Vobile MediaWise filtering and monetization software does. It will follow rules set by the content producer/owner. When it detects owned content it can be set to allow the first 3 minutes to play and then link back to the content owners site to purchase more. Or it can replace the infringing content with an approved trailer, and link back to the content owners sites to purchase.

Users get some free content and then get offered premium/long form content to purchase.

I think customers will always strive to seek free content regardless, and I feel the "productive" business model should still suffice, which is giving away some free content then charging for premium content.
