I wonder how many people are motivated to watch certain events because they've been spoiled, and not merely in spite of it?

For example, I don't care at all about the 100m usually, but knowing that there was a world record and a controversy (about "showboating" at the end) increased my interest to the point that I wanted to watch it in prime time.

You know what the really strange thing has been for me? I'm so used to watching time-independent video that it doesn't even bother me one bit to watch Michael Phelps two days after the fact, or watch Usain Bolt on some pixelated 320x240 also-ran web video site.

At least we can watch the races over and over and over to feel that Gold Medal fever!

Interesting post. I haven't actually been watching any of the Olympics, purely because I have all day access to the internet and avoiding seeing the results (which spoils watching the game afterwards) is pretty much impossible.

Also interested to know where the 2010 games and the 2014 games are being held ;P

27 minutes of video watched per person is pretty darn impressive.

Personally I’ve found the video quality excellent on the site. I have a 24″ iMac and have kept it open much of the day watching during work. The navigation on the site is suboptimal (your point on finding the video is very valid). Once found though I’ve been very happy.
