Not every business wants to store their files in the cloud. FileSpirit, a German company, is launching a new service by the same name that lets companies give their mobile workers remote access to company files and databases through a mobile file browser.

While companies are increasingly storing more of their files in the cloud, not every business is ready to go that route. For those customers who just want to provide private mobile file access to their mobile workers, FileSpirit is trying to be that tool.

FileSpirit, a German-based company, is launching its mobile file browser at GigaOM’s Structure Europe Launchpad competition next week. The service allows companies to extend mobile file access to road warriors and sales people using a secure system that encrypts outbound data from the company’s premises and decrypts it on an iPad or iPhone. FileSpirit doesn’t require users to open up their firewall, use a VPN or call on a lot of IT expertise.

End users access files through a visual file browser that lets them see documents as images similar to Apple’s iTunes CoverFlow system. Using a configuration tool, users can call up files and also tap into company databases. That allows them to view CRM, SQL and business intelligence data as well as Excel files or other database information inside the browser. FileSpirit also works offline so users can save folders and subfolders to their mobile device.

Co-founder Dominik Wever said many companies, especially in Europe, are skittish about storing their files in the cloud. And he said some other file access solutions aren’t built with enterprise customers in mind. He said FileSpirit doesn’t view of any of the files and acts like a telecom PBX, routing data to the right people. And since it can call up information from various databases, it allows salesman and other businesspeople to get what they need right away and close a sale immediately.

Wever and his co-founder Johannes Geyer previously launched Julitec, a CRM product in Europe. Now, they’ve been focusing on opening up remote access to files and data.

FileSpirit is one of five finalists in our Structure: Europe Launchpad competition, which will take place on October 16th in Amsterdam. More information can be found here.
