Zumobi browser beta- based on Microsoft technology
Mary Jo has the scoop on a new mobile browser based on Microsoft technology that is now in a public beta. The Zumobi browser works on "tiles" that offer pre-built content from providers and cannot simply surf the web. The beta is available on the Zumobi web site and supposedly works on Windows Mobile 5 and 6, BlackBerry and other platforms. I tried to download it to the HTC Advantage which runs WM6 and Zumobi informed me that my "phone is not currently supported". Before Zumobi will try to download the program to the phone you must set up an account and give them your mobile number and email address. Since the Advantage install failed after this step I then tried it on the BlackBerry and Zumobi won’t let me try it as the "email is already assigned to an account". That would be the account that is not usable on the Advantage. They’ll have to get better than this and quite frankly I’m not too thrilled to give them my phone number and email before finding out if my device is supported. Your experience might be better than mine so give it a try and tell us what you think.

when i first read about this i thought it was a launcher style system, as it makes way more sense that way and some kind of web browser.
all in all, it makes me think about AOL or similar. they could not can the internet worm on the pc, so now they are trying to do so on the phone…

I’ve got it on my Dash, but it has huge memory requirements. It requires 10 MB of available RAM to run and I frequently have to shut down apps in order to get it to run. Granted, it’s a beta so I think it’s fair to expect improvement. Hard to say whether this has any real value though.
I tried to download it to my HTC Touch. Not enough memory. I’ll try again when I get my enhanced Touch in a day or so.

You aren’t alone. I jumped through Zumobi’s hoops as well only to be told my Motorola Q9h is not supported.
I was so ticked, I posted a question on their forum asking to let me know what were the significant diffences between the Q and the Q9.
There may be some significant hurdles (and I’ll beg stupidity here) but if it works on a Q, why not the Q9h?
I saw it was tested and guaranteed to work on the Q which is why I went forward with the registration.
Just look for it in the xda-developers forum. I’m sure that the cab will work with all your WM phones… :)
