You can also send out to India, where they do the tedious cleaning, for scanning slides at ScanCafe.com. (I haven’t yet tried them, but have read good reports.)

If you need them, I have a pair of old underpants with a picture of Bart Simpson on them you can borrow. I will want them back, though. They don’t fit me anymore but I refuse to throw them out.

I would love to hear about your experience with the “digitizer”. My family has hundreds of boxes of slides. I picked up a slide converter at a local Bed Bath & Beyond and never got it to work. My XP box just wouldn’t recognize it. I found a LOT of other folks on the internet who had the same experience … with the same model. I took it back after several hours of failure. I’ve not been brave enough to try a different one … I’ve seen different brands at Sharper Image (or one such store), etc. If you have good look, would you mind mentioning the brand?

That is awesome. My dad recently went through a whole phase of digitizing all of our old media. He is threatening to put my 4th grade talent show performance on YouTube (lip-synced to blues brothers with a friend, did the whole dance and everything).

Ah, a world I never knew of in my personal life, slide based photograph viewing seems pretty “out there” to me. I mean, of course I am the generation who still used point and shoot film based cameras, but that was only for at most a few years, before digital photography started to emerge!
