Would you pay $1500 for a Windows Mobile phone?
Three months ago, I asked the very same question, only the price was $200 higher. It’s the HTC X7500, er Athena…uh Ameo…I meant, Advantage, or is it the U1000? Maybe calling the device by five names is jacking up the price. In any case, if you want to pre-order the Windows Mobile 5 phone with a five-inch display and 8 GB hard drive, don’t let us stop you. Head right over to On-The-Go Solutions and then tell us how it feels to splurge. Meanwhile, we’ll be using first generation UMPCs with more storage and larger displays for about 50% less, which leaves us money to pick up a nice phone too. Yikes! If you want to save the $1500 and get just a feel for the device, put your wallet away and watch the video unboxing. ;)

What I want to know is: for $1500 USD do I get a free upgrade to WM6?
@Spit- Can you make a phone call by holding the Ameo up to your ear like a regular phone?
Too rich for me – I’m looking at the Nokia N95 for $350 on T-Mobile 12 month contract http://www.smalltalk.co.uk/mobile/phones/disphandset.php?network=tmobile&handset=N95
I was debating about getting myself a small camera for computer stuff (blogging, etc), my current contract is up and this has a 5 Megapixel one.
That’s |T-mobile in the UK before anyone gets excited
Kevin, do those 1st gen UMPCs have HSDPA/UMTS? Just checking :)
I haven’t written my review yet, but I recently had an opportunity to review the TabletKiosk eo. Ultimately, the lack of WWAN was just a killer for me – the combination of EVDO on my M200 Tablet (the eo doesn’t have a PCMCIA slot) and my blackberry offered more.
The answer is ebay – brand new ones go for about 650 euro – not bad
I use a BT headset. Not tried it to my ear, not going to either.
That $1,500 price tag isn’t really a good deal for the Advantage, let’s use a better source – Mad Monkey Boy is selling them for $1,095, that’s actually less than I paid for my JasJar 1.5 years ago!

As has been pointed out, the subsidized price of $400 euro ($535 USD) is actually an incredibly good deal, not a US carrier is likely to offer this device, but at least you can then have a clean discussion about the merits of the device.
