I am thinking of buying on and putting Windows Fundamentals for Legacy Pcs. It is a stripped down Windows XP SP2 version that that boots in 17 seconds and has a footprint of 700mb.

From what I have heard, the Atom isn't going to make it much faster... but Asus hinted at 8 hour battery life with it. That's pretty Hot!

I've been really happy with my 8g with XP on it. I might trade it up for the bigger screen though. I will buy the Linux version and install XP on like I did with my current one. Was able to get XP w/ SP2 fully updated, office03 w/ Outlook07, and firefox and a couple misc apps in less than 1g of space. The preloaded XP is reported at 1.8g without the extras.

I think I'd rather go for one of the upcoming 9" touchscreen versions.

I'm also waiting for the Atom processor to see how much faster it is over the underclocked Celeron.
